Prime Minister Scott Morrison has defended Australia’s hotel quarantine system as “99.99 per cent effective” at protecting the community against COVID-19, amid calls for a change in approach from some medical experts.

A spread of infection at a quarantine hotel in Perth contributed to the city’s three-day lockdown over the past weekend, prompting some medical experts to question the current system.
