Sarah Everard’s murder has prompted new proposals to protect women. The same tactics failed to stop the Yorkshire Ripper
The kidnap and murder of Sarah Everard is bringing back bad memories for those who lived through the Yorkshire Ripper’s reign of terror in northern England in the 1970s.
Like many of the Yorkshire Ripper’s victims, Ms Everard was snatched off the street by a stranger as she walked home at night.
And like the Ripper case four decades ago, this latest act of violence against a woman has prompted a national outcry from those who say they’re not safe in public places.
It has also sparked a debate on whether police are doing enough to protect women.
