SA Police data shows rise in domestic violence assaults amid COVID-19 pandemic
New data released by South Australia Police has revealed a significant increase in the number of domestic violence assaults during the height of the state’s COVID-19 lockdown.

- Police data shows there were 440 more domestic assaults between last March and August
- There was an 11 per cent increase in domestic assaults in 2020

The statistics show there were 9,526 family and domestic-related assaults reported to police in 2020 compared to 8,587 in 2019, an increase of 11 per cent.
There were 440 more domestic assaults between March and August, when South Australians were asked to stay home during the height of the pandemic.
