St Kilda are set to begin their season without either of first-choice ruck pairing Paddy Ryder and Rowan Marshall, with Ryder to spend several weeks away from the club on personal leave.
Ryder, who turns 33 this weekend, requested time away to spend with family and Indigenous community elders.
It comes following the foot injury suffered by Marshall, 25, whose scans last month showed the early signs of a stress injury.
