Stewards tell Victorian Racing Tribunal suspension not enough for betting offences
Racing Victoria stewards have called on the Victorian Racing Tribunal to impose an eight-month disqualification on jockey Ben Melham over four illegal betting charges.
In making his penalty submissions for the betting charges that Melham pleaded guilty to on Monday, RV legal representative Albert Dinelli said on Tuesday that Melham’s conduct in making a series of illegal bets and then giving false evidence demanded a harsher penalty than a suspension.
