Rockhampton mayor resigns over misconduct finding

She said the official visits were part of the job as mayor.
“My refusal to agree that I may have been compromised in some way by the visit is a matter of personal integrity for me,” she wrote on Facebook.
“As a matter of honour given the misconduct finding, I tendered my resignation to the chief executive officer this afternoon.”
Ms Strelow apologised to the community, who she said might be left with “a mayor who was not of your choosing”, but hoped the government would allow a byelection.
Ms Strelow had been re-elected on March 28 this year but as her resignation came within the first 12 months of her term, under Queensland law her runner-up in the March election, Chris Hooper, will fill the position.
