Obtaining the consent of traditional owners to start a new gold mine in WA will be harder for Rio Tinto than initially thought, the miner concedes.
The company issued its fourth quarter production report on Tuesday, showing it had achieved a 2 per cent increase in full year iron ore output in the states Pilbara region and a 1 per cent lift in shipments.
Rio Tinto previously expected production would start at the Winu gold and copper project in 2023 but is now aiming for the following year.
