Rio Tinto still searching for answers on cave blast – The Australian Financial Review
Two months on from the controversial destruction of Juukan Gorge, Rio chief Jean-Sebastien Jacques says he still doesn’t have all the answers.
But that changed in May when Rio attracted international criticism for blasting a cave that was culturally significant to the traditional landowners near Rio’s Brockman iron ore mines; the Puutu Kunti Kurrama and Pinikura people.
The saga is now the subject a federal parliamentary inquiry, and Mr Jacques said he was keen to get clarity on the matter.
”We dont understand what happened, we are keen to understand, to learn from this and make sure it doesnt happen again, he told AFR Weekend.
