Rio Tinto acknowledges ‘mistakes’ in communicating with traditional owners about management changes

Rio Tinto has moved to deal with fresh concerns raised by the traditional owners of the Juukan Gorge heritage sites, which were destroyed in blasts by the mining company to access iron ore.

The Puutu Kunti Kurrama Pinikura (PKKP) Aboriginal Corporation had written to Rio Tinto this week, warning it was “reluctant to participate in the relationship any longer”, accusing the company of failing to consult adequately on management changes.
