Research shows Māori are more likely to die from COVID-19 than other New Zealanders – The Conversation AU
Māori are historically at greater risk of severe illness and death during pandemics. New research shows they are at least 50% more likely to die from COVID-19 than other New Zealanders.

The risk of dying from COVID-19 is at least 50% higher for Mori than New Zealanders from European backgrounds, according to our study published today.
Mori and Pacific populations are historically at greater risk of hospitalisation and death from pandemics. During the 2009 influenza pandemic, the rate of infection for Mori was twice that of Pkeh (European New Zealanders). Mori were three times more likely to be hospitalised and almost three times more likely to die.
