Reporters told to leave as alleged Australia Day teen killer appears in court

The teenager’s matter was mentioned in the Brisbane Children’s Court on Monday.

The rules are that all Children’s Court proceedings in the Magistrates Court are heard in a closed court and no information identifying a juvenile defendant can be published.
However, media organisations and others can apply to be allowed into the Children’s Court on a case-by-case basis.
On Monday, a court representative ushered reporters into the room when the matter was being heard, but they were then told to leave by lawyers, who were seemingly unaware of the court representative allowing journalists to hear the outcome of their application.
Once under way, the prosecution and defence lawyers both opposed the presence of media representatives…
