Record number of drowning deaths in Victoria before summer holidays sparks concern

There have been a record number of drownings on Victoria’s beaches and waterways since July this year — with 27 deaths, including a man who died at Frankston on Saturday and five young children.

It is the highest number of drowning deaths seen for the period between July and December, and 11 more than the five and ten-year averages for that period.
