Queenslanders’ hearts are feeling the heat, research shows – Brisbane Times
As the mean temperature has increased over the past two decades, so too have hospital admissions for cardiovascular issues, research shows.
One of the study’s authors, environmental health expert Yuming Guo, said while both measures had gone up over the same period, there was a proportionally higher impact on heart health at the higher temperatures.
“The relationship between temperature and hospitalisation in 1995 is a lot lower than the relationship in 2016,” Dr Guo said. “That means people in Queensland have not adapted to the hotter temperatures.”
