Queensland police officer stabbed in chest in Cairns shopping centre

A Queensland police officer has been taken to hospital in a serious condition, after he was stabbed in the chest at a major Cairns shopping centre.
Key points:
- The officer was conducting patrols in the stairwell where he was stabbed
- The man was found half an hour later in the nearby suburb of Bungalow
- A 22-year-old man is in custody with charges expected to be laid
Emergency services were called to the incident at Cairns Central on McLeod Street just before 2:30pm.
Police said a 22-year-old man was in custody and is currently assisting police with their enquiries.
Officers found the man half an hour later at the Bungalow Hotel, where he was arrested.
He was taken to Cairns Base Hospital.
