Mr Baker’s wife, Vicki, feared for his life.

“We first went to the Mater Hospital and they kept him for four hours, until they said he was dehydrated and told us to go home,” she said.

Ms Baker said Michael’s condition worsened to the point that he was unable to swallow food.

“COVID-19 was running rife and it wasn’t until we went to the doctor’s and I told them they’d have to come out to the car because he couldn’t walk and he was so sick,” she said.

Ms Baker said he was then admitted into St Andrew’s Ipswich Private Hospital.

“It was terrifying because it wasn’t Mike,” she said. “Mike is normally a fit and healthy person. We didn’t know what was wrong.”
