Queensland kids were asked about the pandemic. Here’s what they drew

GoCA director Jessica McVeigh said about 350 artworks were entered from children across Queensland.

She said 50 pieces were chosen and videos of 30 children being interviewed were displayed in the museum, with the help of MoB curator Emma McLean.

“There were some key themes but others included not being able to see their grandparents at church or not being able to play on the swings,” she said.

“It also showed their understanding of the gravity of the situation.”

Ms McVeigh said she was surprised there was a “huge percentage of joy” shown.

“There are the negative responses, and right at the start of the pandemic there was fear and not a lot of understanding, but as it progressed, we started to get more positive works,” she said.
