Queensland holiday road toll almost doubles in ‘shocking’ start to 2021

Acting Chief Superintendent Ray Rohweder said there had also been a “disturbing” 11 per cent increase in the number of people injured, many with permanent effects.
“We’re in the sad state where we already have 29 lives lost this year. Now that unfortunately is 11 more than last year — so we really, really need to get the message through to all those drivers out there that are utilising the road network that they need to obey the road laws,” he said.
“The issues around who’s responsible for the road toll don’t sit with the police, don’t sit with Transport and Main Roads. It sits with the driving public.”
