Queensland GP fined $15,000 after professional misconduct

A Queensland GP has been fined $15,000 for providing false information to the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency and not declaring criminal charges, despite spending time in an American prison.

David John Farrar, a general practitioner who has operated in Queensland since July 2014, was found by the Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal to have given false information to AHPRA after he failed to notify the board about criminal offences to which he pleaded guilty in the United States.

Farrar was charged in July 2012 and, in March the following year, pleaded guilty in Massachusetts to domestic assault and battery charges, and violation of abuse prevention orders, and was sentenced to a term of imprisonment and…
