Public Shark Report: QLD – NORTH WEST ISLAND. 13:00, 30 Dec 19, Shovel-nosed shark, Bite, A middle-aged man has been airlifted to hospital with minor injuries after a shark bite on the leg.
The incident occurred in waters off North West Island in the Coral Sea, about 76 kilometres north-west of Gladstone.
“A helicopter has responded and landed at the scene,” Gladstone senior operations supervisor Alistair Vagg told media.
“The crew there has found the patient was … bitten by a shovel-nosed shark and sustained minor lacerations to his lower limbs and hand.”
The helicopter crew treated the middle-aged man on the scene before he was airlifted in a stable condition to Gladstone Hospital for further treatment and assessment.
