Prime Minister Scott Morrison apologises to Liberal Party staffer Brittany Higgins over handling of sexual assault complaint
Prime Minister Scott Morrison has apologised to former Liberal staffer Brittany Higgins for the way in which her complaint about her alleged rape was initially handled.
Key points:
- The Prime Minister has announced two new processes that he hopes will better support women working in politics
- Liberal Party MP Celia Hammond will work with the party to consider new standards
- A senior public servant will look at establishing an avenue of complaints for staffers outside political parties
Ms Higgins alleges she was raped by a male colleague in the office of then-defence industry minister Linda Reynolds after a night out in 2019.
“This should not be an environment where a young woman can find herself in such a vulnerable situation,” Mr Morrison said.
