Power outages Cairns: Ergon Energy says 40,000 without electricity as BOM issues cyclone warning

As many as 40,000 homes and businesses have been left without power amid warnings a cyclone is likely to form off the far north Queensland coast bringing strong winds, heavy rain and abnormally high tides.
Power lines, trees and fences were brought down in Cairns on Monday as the tropical low strengthened.
Ergon Energy said crews were working through “challenging” conditions to address outages across Far North Queensland which had impacted thousands of customers.
