Richie Porte has had more than his fair share of bad luck racing in the Tour De France. But like Cadel Evans before him, when Porte finally got a clear run in 2020, he fulfilled his long-held promise.

Since his professional career began in 2010, no matter the setback, Porte has always taken this writers call to give his thoughts on the situation such as when bronchitis ruined his Tour in 2014, when he became Sky Team leader after Chris Froome abandoned, or when he punctured with eight kilometres to go in stage two of the 2016 Tour, and again that year on stage 12 when he crashed into a motorbike that blocked the road as he was in full flight.
