Popular blood pressure drug raises melanoma risks – The Australian Financial Review

An old and very popular drug for high blood pressure seems to be putting Australians at risk of melanoma and lip cancer.

Lead author Dr Benjamin Daniels, a pharmaco-epidemiologist at the University of NSW, said the risk appeared to be cumulative for squamous cell cancer of the lip. This means the longer the drug is used, the higher the risk of it developing.
The same does not apply to melanoma, with more than 16,200 Australians expected to be diagnosed with this cancer in 2020. An estimated 1375 are expected to die from it.
