Pool drowning warning as one in four Brisbane pools fails safety check

“It is alarming to hear, of the 1006 pool inspections carried out by council this year to date, more than a quarter failed to meet the required safety standards.”
Cr Schrinner said that despite the recent wet weather, it was now peak swimming pool weather.
“I want all pool owners to take the time to ‘summer safe’ their pool before diving in and help ensure that a fun afternoon in the sun doesn’t take a tragic turn.”
The Royal Life Saving National Drowning Report in 2020 found 62 Queenslanders – and nationally, 248 Australians – drowned in 2019-2020.
Of the Queenslanders, 12 were children under the age of four and six died in home swimming pools.
