Police launch internal review into ‘failure’ to protect Gold Coast mother
An internal police review will be launched following the death of Gold Coast mother-of-three Kelly Wilkinson, as police admit they failed to protect her.
Police confirmed Ms Wilkinson twice contacted officers in the weeks before her death, allegedly at the hands of her former partner, Brian Earl Johnston.
Kelly Wilkinson’s former partner has been charged with her murder.
Assistant Commissioner Brian Codd confirmed there was a domestic violence incident on March 29, and two other instances involving Ms Wilkinson attending police stations.
Ms Wilkinson’s burnt body was found in her Arundel home on Tuesday morning, with her three children believed to be inside at the time.
