It is understood a woman arrived at the Townsville University Hospital this afternoon with the child in her four-wheel drive.
Police have confirmed a vehicle is part of the investigation and the four-wheel drive has since been taken away on a tow truck.
The Queensland Ambulance Service said paramedics had not been called to an incident.
