Pokies dominated the last Tasmanian election campaign, but this time around, major parties are barely mentioning them

On a Monday afternoon in Hobart’s northern suburbs, there’s no sign of a state election looming.

On the green at the Glenorchy City Bowls Club, there’s plenty of sledging, but no talk of politics.

For 73-year-old Jack Breadon, the May 1 poll is back of mind.

“I do give a vote, but that’s about it,” he said.

“We don’t talk politics when we play bowls.”
