PNG businessman and former governor Malcolm ‘Kela’ Smith identified as Queensland’s COVID-19 victim

A man who died in a Queensland hospital after contracting COVID-19 overseas has been named as a respected businessman and former governor, Malcolm ‘Kela’ Smith.
PNG Health Minister Jelta Wong confirmed the 77-year-old, who is a dual Papuan-British national, died at Redcliffe Hospital on Monday.
In a statement, Queensland Health said Smith had been transported by Medivac from PNG to Queensland on March 28 as his condition was “worsening”.
