PM says Australia is ‘getting to that point’ of open borders as jabs start

Mr Morrison said that once the first group was vaccinated “there is no doubt that provides a big change to how we assess risk around COVID in this country”.

“I think it is a reasonable expectation that as time goes on, as the vaccination rolls out across the world and here in Australia, you should rightly expect that things will change and how we manage the virus,” he said.

“The risk is going to change, it will go down with the vaccination, it will go down because of the improvement of practices.”

Queensland will no longer have border restrictions on February 27, when restrictions for people travelling from greater Melbourne are removed.

The only time this occurred since the borders were first closed in March was for eight days
