NSW-Victorian border communities reeling after COVID-19 hard border reinstated
Almost a month after the New South Wales hard border with Victoria was lifted communities on both sides of the river are dealing with yet another shutdown.
Key points:
- Some 700 members of Victoria Police have been deployed to checkpoints along the NSW-Victorian border
- Border residents can use their driver’s licence to cross the border rather than having to get a permit
- It’s a disheartening blow for border town business that were banking on a bumper Christmas season
New restrictions rolled out across Greater Sydney today and from 11:59pm on Sunday Victoria declared all of Sydney and the NSW Central Coast a COVID-19 “red zone”.
Visitors who travel to Victoria from those areas have to complete 14 days of mandatory hotel quarantine.
