NSW makes late play to stage first Origin at Bankwest Stadium – The Sydney Morning Herald
With Melbourne’s chances fading of hosting the Origin opener on June 9, Townsville is favourite to host the game.

The NSW government has made a late bid to host the opening State of Origin game in Sydney and prevent Queensland getting the advantage of two Origin fixtures on home soil.
The first clash is scheduled to played at the MCG on June 9 but the COVID-19 outbreak and lockdown in Melbourne has the NRL negotiating with state governments about alternate venues.
