Rioli is expected to have his case heard this month, after more than a year out of the game following an ASADA ban for allegedly tampering with a urine sample in August 2019 and then weeks later testing positive for cannabis on game day.
The 25-year-old is facing a maximum four-year suspension, something Dean believes to be far beyond what is necessary to set an example to other players.
