No damage to Happy Valley town as Fraser Island evacuation orders ease

More than 90 personnel remain on the island from Queensland Fire and Emergency Services and Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service as well as the Butchulla Aboriginal Corporation.
There were 34 firefighting vehicles and 24 water-bombers engaged in efforts on Monday, including the Queensland and NSW large air tankers – which dropped one load of retardant each.
Fires have burnt an estimated 85,000 hectares of the island’s total 184,000 hectares.
The main firefronts remain near Kingfisher Bay Resort, Happy Valley township and Cathedral Beach.
The environment department, which overseas Queensland Parks and Wildlife, has said the fire began on October 14 as the result of an illegal and poorly extinguished campfire.
