There are fears of a new highly-contagious chain of transmission in NZ as a mystery coronavirus case stumps experts.
A maintenance worker at the Rydges Hotel isolation facility in Auckland has tested positive for coronavirus, sparking fears of a new highly-contagious chain of transmission.
The worker does not have contact with guests in hotel isolation, so it was initially thought he was part of the growing Auckland coronavirus cluster.
The person returned a positive result for COVID-19 on Sunday, August 16, with symptom onset on August 11, the NZ Ministry of Health said in a statement.
