Having put out more product than the major studios this year, Netflix could reportedly give MGM a run for its money for the most best picture Oscar nominations from any studio in history reports Variety.
MGM has held the record since 1937 when it had five films nominated (out of ten total) for the top prize – at the time the studio was the major heavyweight in Hollywood. Netflix has gone for Best Picture glory before with both “Roma” in 2018 and both “Marriage Story” and “The Irishman” last year.
