OPINION: My GP told me my strange symptoms were nothing. Months later I was told ‘You have lots of cancer’.
OPINION: I am sharing my story to raise awareness of Hodgkin’s lymphoma, and to encourage people to advocate for their health.
I am a 26-year-old wife and mother, and in March I was diagnosed with cancer.
For much of my adult life, I have been around sick people. I have worked as a registered nurse since I was 22, and this year became the first recipient of the PhD scholarship in Nursing at Waikato University.
I have always been the health professional, never the patient, until now.
