More travel freedom comes online after months of coronavirus border restrictions

For the first time in many months, most of Australia’s state and territory borders have reopened, a welcome move ahead of Christmas.
Controls on interstate movements were introduced earlier in the year in an attempt to limit the spread of COVID-19.
But the renewed freedoms present a confusing situation for travellers, as each state has different rules.
Some jurisdictions require pre-registration for entry, mask-wearing and venue check-ins, while others are more relaxed.
Here’s a guide to some of the state and territory-based rules — but as we know, the situation can change rapidly.
New South Wales
Travel has been allowed across New South Wales borders apart from some restrictions for Victoria which were removed on November 23.
