More registered cars than drivers as Queensland hits the road

“I suppose some grey nomads would have a small car that they would use to run around town with,” Ms Gough said.

“They might have two cars, depending on their circumstances.

“Usually if they have a motorhome, they have a car because they don’t necessarily want to drive their motorhome around to the shops in Brisbane, or something like that.”

She believed the COVID-19 pandemic was creating more grey nomads since Queenslanders were allowed from June 11 to go on driving holidays.

“More and more people are thinking, ‘Well, I might have planned to go overseas when I retire and that doesn’t look like an easy thing to do, so I may as well buy a caravan or a motorhome and just do it,” she said.
