More COVID-19 patients in Qld hospitals now than at height of pandemic

Queensland harbours “major concerns” the virus could spread into Australia through the Torres Strait.

Ms Palaszczuk said 280 eligible people in the Torres Strait region had received their first vaccine dose.

“Queensland’s Torres Strait Islands are as little as four kilometres from PNG,” she said.

“This is in addition to 40,870 doses that have been administered to frontline health and hotel quarantine workers vaccinated via 35 hubs operating across the state.”

About 250 GP clinics across Queensland began administering COVID-19 vaccinations on Monday as Australia entered the next phase of the national rollout.
