The COVID-19 fall/winter surge is fast approaching — and may already be upon us — and mask wearing could make a substantial dent in the projected U.S. death toll into 2021, a modeling study found.
If 95% of people in the U.S. wore masks, about 130,000 fewer Americans would die through February 2021 compared to current reference data, reported the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME) COVID-19 Forecasting Team, based at the University of Washington in Seattle.
