Mitchell Pearce’s horror off-season has got even worse after suffering a thumb injury that requires surgery.
The Newcastle Knights halfback hurt his right thumb in a “training incident” last week and will go under the knife today.
The club said Pearce’s injury was considered minor and he is expected to be fit for the start of the NRL season.
But the setback adds to a nightmare month for Pearce, who lost the Knights captaincy after a text message scandal involving a Newcastle employee.
