Millions saved: Australian federal budget measure saves Warriors, Wellington Phoenix from huge tax headache – Stuff.co.nz
The Australian federal budget this week includes a rule that will save the Warriors and the Wellington Phoenix millions of dollars in tax compensation.
The Warriors have been saved from having to pay out $5.5 million in taxes thanks to the latest Australian federal budget.
Because the clubs players and staff have been based in Australia for longer than an 183-day threshold, they became liable to pay tax in that country at the highest rate.
Legally, players and staff would then have been able to claim that money back from the Warriors, which would have not only had a huge impact on the clubs finances, but would also get the club into salary cap…
