Miles says rejection of JobKeeper extension ‘heartless’ and ‘cruel’
Mr Miles said Mr Frydenberg’s suggestion for businesses to find a new way to make profit was “unrealistic” for businesses that focused on international tourists.
“I think those remarks from Minister Frydenberg, they’re heartless, they’re cruel,” he said.
More than 3660 Cairns businesses are signed up to JobKeeper, 400 more than in Brisbane’s CBD and almost 600 more than Surfers Paradise on the Gold Coast.
Mr Miles said he was eager to see what the federal government had in store for the Queensland tourism industry.
“We need many of those businesses to survive because those are the products that attract visitors here in Queensland,” he told ABC Brisbane.
