A lucky Michigan lottery player holds the winning ticket for a jackpot of more than $US1 billion, the third-largest lottery prize in US history.
The Mega Millions top prize had been growing since September, when it was reset to $20 million.
The winning ticket was purchased at a Kroger store in Detroit, the Michigan Lottery said.
“Someone in Michigan woke up to life-changing news this morning” said Rachel Hurst, a regional spokeswoman for the grocery chain.
