Metallic nanoribbons fill missing link for all-carbon devices – Physics World – physicsworld.com
New carbon nanomaterial could deliver faster, higher efficiency electronics

Graphene nanoribbon: Scanning tunnelling microscope image of a wide-band metallic graphene nanoribbon (GNR). Each cluster of protrusions corresponds to a singly occupied electron orbital. The formation of a pentagonal ring near each cluster leads to a twentyfold increase in the conductivity of metallic GNRs. The GNR backbone has a width of 1.6 nm. (Courtesy: UC Berkeley/Daniel Rizzo)
Pushing the limits of silicon electronics to make smaller, faster and more efficient devices is getting harder. …
