It has been 97 days since Melburnians started a second stint under strict stay-at-home rules.
Victoria is both agonisingly close to and annoyingly far from reaching the State Government’s goal, a 14-day average of fewer than five cases a day.
Progress had been so fast Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews was confident enough to shift the suggested date for lifting stay at home restrictions a week earlier.
