Eighteen suburbs in Melbournes eastern and outer northern suburbs have been placed on high alert for signs of coronavirus.
The Department of Health on Tuesday reported viral fragments had been found in wastewater catchments that treat those areas.
The wastewater testing program is designed as an early warning system to support our ongoing efforts in continuing to protect the COVID-Safe environment we have achieved, the department says.
