Melbourne Football Club condemn racist abuse aimed at star recruit Harley Bennell – PerthNow
The Melbourne Football Club has slammed the “abhorrent” racist tweet aimed at star recruit Harley Bennell.

It was an emotional night for Harley Bennell who kicked his first goal for his new club after the siren to help the Demons to a 17-point win over Gold Coast.
But moments after the dramatic finish to the clash, Bennell was targeted in a racist comment posted on social media.
Commenting on the AFLs video of Bennells goal, a user with the twitter handle James W. Ferguson posted fing a** before the account was later deleted.

Melbourne Football Club chairman Glen Bartlett issued a statement on Sunday morning condemning the behaviour.
There is just no place for this racist behaviour in our game and in society, Bartlett said.
Its incredibly frustrating that comments of this nature continue to be made, and its important that we, as a football community, dont shy away from whats right.
We all have a responsibility to call this behaviour out and hold these individuals to account. It is simply not okay to remain silent.
I am already in discussions and intend to follow up key Federal and Victorian Government Ministers to explore what can be done to strengthen laws to make people accountable and stamp out this abhorrent behaviour.
The club stands with Harley, and strongly against the vilification of our people. We will continue to drive the importance of listening, learning and educating.
Bennell is one of the AFLs fairytale stories for 2020 having overcome countless calf setbacks before getting a lifeline at Melbourne when delisted by the Dockers at the end of 2019.
Hes not the first indigenous AFL player to be targeted by racist trolls on social media.
Eagle Liam Ryan, Blue Eddie Betts and others have all been the subject of racial taunts and have called out the disgusting behaviour.
