Dr Young said work was being done to determine how the infection occurred but it was “most likely some environmental contamination or some aerosolisation of the virus when the person was admitted”.
All patients who had been in the ward have since been moved elsewhere and a deep clean carried out.
Dr Young said she did not have the figures when asked how many PA staff were in quarantine, but added that the total number had grown to more than 1000 in relation to the clusters.
