The Collingwood ruck-forward copped a blow to the throat at training on Wednesday morning and was taken for precautionary assessment.
Cox was able to walk himself to an ambulance.
It is the latest unusual injury for the 211cm American, who copped a season-ending tear of the retina in his left eye in 2019.
Cox needed three surgeries to repair the damaged eye, which he said had left him legally blind.
